We do this by:

Training in basic skills
In Auroville’s Life Education Centre these girls get a new chance. When they drop out of school and come here, they are trained for about two years in basic skills like spoken English, in mathematics, typewriting and basic computer-skills.
They also learn, for most of their time, tailoring, crochet in order to become independent and able to earn money on their own in their villages.

Time for self-study, tutorship facilities and financial support for incompleted school education
The average earnings of secondary school certificate holders are significantly higher than those with primary school education. To this effect, all those students, who have not completed their basic std 10, are encouraged to do so, while they study in L.E.C. We offer these students the time for self-study, tutorship facilities if needed, and financial support. The coordinator accompanies the girls during their whole process, and assists them like a mother.
Carefully and with love she encourages them and teaches them to be aware of their strengths and capacities. She is listening to them all the time once a week they talk about the situation and the role of women in India and also about their own family situations, in group discussion classes. The girls support each other like within a family, and obviously they have in L.E.C. a second home where they can grow and develop according to their own nature.

Individual counseling
For this they are given the space and opportunity to receive individual counseling from their coordinator and in group-counseling.

Family/home visits
Very closely tied to this, are the regular family/home visits to the homes of every student. This allows LEC to be familiar with the family situation and also create a rapport with the parents.
Parents are encouraged to visit the school at any time to talk with the coordinator and also see how their daughter is performing.
